Please please please tell me that I'm not the only one who detests Hawaiian shirt fridays.
Does anyone work in an office that does NOT participate in this hideous ritual?
Happy birthday (one day late) to my BFF Shiree! She has entered her 30's with style and grace! Tomorrow night we're gonna party like it's her birthday, playboy mansion style. I can't wait!

Oh, I'm so sad to hear that you detest Hawaiian shirt Fridays. :(
It isn't really what I would call a ritual here, but I think I started it for my group. Mine aren't necessarily Hawaiian shirts, but I do like wearing tropical-themed shirts. Mostly on Fridays, but sometimes other days as well.
Surfboards, beaches, palm trees, tropical plants. The louder and brighter the better. :)
To each his own, I guess.
LMAO Christy...I've never worked in a place that held this tradition...casual Fridays, yes, but not Hawaiian shirt day...too funny. It would get old after awhile I would imagine...I don't care for those kinds of shirts either!
Can't wait to party with you at Shiree's!! BTW...I have a little surprise for you and Jer when you get there...Shhh!!!
We've practiced Casual Fridays for the past seven years that I've been here. Every once in a while people will wear a tropical or Hawaiian shirt, but those times are rare. Of course, these are the same people that usually wear ties that shouldn't be worn on any day other than Halloween. Call me a "Nazi," but I wish there was a real Fashion Police who used their nightsticks on horrible fashion offenders.
I'd be an advocate of "Naked Fridays," except most of my co-workers are people I would not want to see naked. Of course, no need to say anything about when I connect to work from home :)
Be well.
That's just so "Office Space".. Unfortantely, we don't have dress down or hawaiian shirt days where I work. And my bad case of the "Moondays" usually falls on a Wednesday.
I would also like to say Happy Birthday to Shiree. She is the most sexy, fun, adventurous, party girl I have ever known not to mention a great mother and I am just lucky as hell to be married to her.
Rob
We have casual Fridays around here. I know the Federal Judiciary (my employer) is supposed to be impartial and all, but today the building is full of black-and-gold jerseys in anticipation of tomorrow's Saints-Eagles game. I don't see any Eagles shirts anywhere. I'm wearing Marques Colston, no. 12.
Christy--I'm adding a comment to your Scrubs thread.
Shudders. Reminds me of an old boss. An engineer. He though he had zany personality. He was wrong.
My husband OWNS THAT SHIRT. And about 5 others like it. Sigh.
Shiree - Welcome to the 30's club!
I have never worked anywhere that I recall ever seeing anyone where Hawaii'an shirts, fortunately. My Brother-in-law wears shirts like that, but I always like the guy despite that fact. :)
MattMan- No offense intended, I hope none taken! You could very well not have the attitude that the men at my work have. It seems like every department I've worked in does this, and each group thinks that they're so creative and original.
Michelle- yay, I can't wait!
Domokun- my work has casual dress, too. I actually only wear jeans on fridays, because they really do affect my mood and make me feel lazy. I know, weird!
Sideon- you and I would make a most excellent fashion police team, no? And NO THANKS to seeing about 90% of my coworkers on naked fridays. The other 10%? Perhaps.... ;-)
Rob- you poor soul. Your fridays are really sundays. Your weeks are all turned around! At least you have a most excellent wife to come home to!
Randy- I have no idea who Marques Colston is, but I love you anyway! I'll respond to you on my Scrubs thread!
Pete- ZACTLY!
SML- that's okay, obviously your husband has great taste since he married you! I'll forgive him for his Hawaiian shirts!
Lemon Blossom- Hate the sin and not the sinner, right?
Unless I am IN Hawaii and have had 3 or 4 Mai Thai's you will never see me wear that. Even back in my Hawaii visual, I am probably already taking the shirt off.
So funny -- I don't think I've ever seen a Hawaiian shirt here in France. That doesn't mean we don't have our share of fashion don'ts, often committed by yours truly... ;-)
No offense taken. Maybe this is a matter of some combination of taste and conformity?
Technically, I don't know if the shirts I'm talking about that I wear would be consider "Hawaiian." Probably are. But, IMO, they're tasteful. Some of them may be bright colors, but I don't consider them gaudy or I wouldn't wear them.
The second point is that these "loud" (it's all relative, right?) shirts I wear are *so* not the norm where I work. It's not a suit and tie place, but it's mostly business casual all the time. Even those, like me, who often wear jeans, still wear tame colored shirts. Hence, I simply want to stick out and try to create some kind of fun party atmosphere for Friday. If everyone else were doing it, or if it were *gasp* some kind of rule, then I'd be the first to *not* do it. If that makes any sense.
So, am I forgiven? :)
How'd the party go?
Hey pete...I'll answer...assuming you're talking about my birthday party!
It was the very most funnest B-day party I have ever had in MY LIFE!!! It was a pajama party! I decorated with white xmas lights...black, red, and blue light bulbs. The rest of the decorations were Pink&Black...because I love those colors together! So ofcoarse we has lots of food...(Christy brought sushi, Mmmmmmm!)...lots to drink...and LOTs of my favorite music to dance to!!! And there was some gooooooood dancin' goin' on!
THEN!!! I got a surprise! I was reeeeaaaaally surprized!!! Everybody had gone in on this very awesome surprize. Everybody gathered in our movie room in the basement (there was a lot of people in that tiny room)...and when Rob took the blindfold off me...there was A FRIGGIN' DRUM SET!!!!!!!!!!! WOO HOO! So, I played for everyone...we rocked to the Killers "All these things I have done". That was very super cool and fun!
So then there was more dancing...people making out...flashing body parts...you know, the usual stuff that happens at "playboy" type parties...I got lots of birthday kisses from everybody I reeeaaally wanted one from (wink). My birthday was a very happy one, because everyone at the party made it that way!
Everyone told me I should turn 30 every year! I'm thinking about it....
What Shiree said. True dat. All of dat.
Hawaiian T-shirts friday is an excellent reason for terrorists to atack moronic America. This blog, also.
SML's HUBBY SAYS: If I had my way, they'd pass a national law that requires EVERYONE to have Hawaiian Shirt Fridays at work.
By the way, are you selling that shirt you posted a pic of? Those parrots ROCK! And the colors blend well. And it'd go good with my khaki shorts.
Maybe all you need is a cool Hawaiian shirt from Wave Shoppe Hawaiian Shirts
