Priorities! Or.... It's a Mad World

So I have to go give a presentation to my entire department in about 20 minutes (my boss just told me yesterday that I have to do this!) and instead of studying what I'm going to speak about, I'm blogging.

I just checked out Sideon's blog and he posted his most beautifully written poem, it was absolutely mesmerizing. But, he got some lyrics stuck in my head. Thanks Sideon, I'll try to return the favor someday!

I love these lyrics and song, so I'm going to share.

"Mad World"
Tears for Fears

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
And their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cos I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad World
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

Thank YOU.

Now I have that song in my head.

If I had my MP3 player going, I could change my mental channel.

As it is, I've got this going on:

"When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad World"

I first heard the David Jules version a couple of months ago as part of (of all things) a commercial for a sci fi war videogame.

Well, it's like the best song I've heard in 17 years or so. Love it. Thanks for this post.

I love the version of this song at the end of "Donnie Darko."

Ah, a trip down memory lane. Tears for Fears so eloquently captured the pain and angst-ridden years of my adolescence. Their first two albums were on my non-stop rotation list back then. And they're on my iPod now.

I once tried out for a TV singing contest (KSL) at a mall in FUCK PROVO...I always write it like that. Anyway, I sang this song for the judges...so somewhere there is a video of overly nervous me singing this acapella. Love this whole album, "The Hurting"...it was what I did in middle school instead of drugs.
